Bianca Kennedy
Bianca Kennedy (born 1989 in Leipzig) studied fine arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and graduated as a “Meisterschüler”. Kennedy’s works have been shown in museums, galleries and festivals, including the Kunsthalle Baden-Baden, the Museum of Fine Arts in Leipzig, the CCBB Rio de Janeiro, the LOOP Festival Barcelona and the Sundance Film Festival.
Her stop motion videos, virtual reality experiences and drawings merge into unconventionally disturbing installations that address physicality and depths of the human nature. With a wide formal range, Kennedy’s works lead deep into the human psyche. Her animations are feverish dreams which unmask suppressed drives and atmospherically explore the limits of what is bearable. Her interest in the staging of the bathtub represents the climax of this confrontation to date; in the 3-channel installation and her drawing series (We’re all in this together, 2018) she gathers all human emotions and brings the viewer into the bathtub (VR all in this together, 2018).
In collaboration with The Swan Collective, they create video and virtual reality works that deal with the future of evolution. Their utopian scenarios propose the fusion of humans, animals and plants (HYBRID, 2016) or a solution to world hunger by eating insects, who in turn are not enthusiastic about this idea (ANIMALIA SUM, 2019).

With “We’re all in this together”, the artist explores the iconography of the bathtub, presenting a three channel video installation which gathers over 200 scenes from different movies. Completed by a series of drawings on the same theme, the installation surrounds the viewer by “immersing” him literally into the videos.
“Lying in a tub comes closest to being in a mothers’ womb, but bathing plays only a minor role in our busy everyday life. Showering is just too effective and eco friendly. Only in movies there is time for taking a bath. The lonely act of bathing is shared in the installation We’re all in this together – even class differences are evened out. And the collection of over 200 scenes from movies demonstrates that at least in a bath tub there is gender equality.”
